I understand the purpose behind the OOC channel, but it is ruining the atmosphere of the game. There is ask, tell, etc if someone wants to talk outside of character. Now, everyone is on ooc all the time, talking about everythign and anything.....and no one is even trying to make a character or role play it. It is becoming like all the other games. I thought this one would actually encourage people to create histories and personalities for their characters, but now, no one is even bothering to try. Is there something that can be done about this????

Hi Sunni:

Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.

OOC was created at the request of several players. But if it's being abused we can easily yank it off again.

The real point of the thing is to allow experienced characters who are grumpy or unhelpful or hostile to offer help to newbies, something which the character wouldn't do while in role.

My suggestion to those who want to hang and chat -- which is totally cool -- is to meet together in a room they like and use the 'say' command. Literally a chat room. Everybody's very welcome to do that.

But please lay off the OOC for routine conversation.

Thanks all!

Sunni is correct. During the development phase it is hard to enforce though. When problems are discovered (real or imaginary), it is not completely unexpected for their to be an OOC discussion.

Soon those player who persist will be rewarded by the gods those who resist will also be rewarded. So depending on what you wish your reward to be act accordingly.

The game is supposed to be fun and an adventure. A chance to play a character.

You could always rename it from OOC to Help.
The difference between the OOC channel and the Ask and Tell channels, is that a newbie can ask advise from everyone who's on, rather than one person, so I do think the channel is required. Maybe, other than renaming it, it just needs those more experienced players to keep an eye on the use of it, and remind other players when they start to abuse it.

I was thinking that maybe if we renamed it the "Newbie Channel" that would make the point really clear? So the command would be Newbie: "newbie even pigeons will kill you at level 3"

What do you all think?

When I first started, and had noticed the "chat" command... at first thought, "chat" was in relation to just chatting through IM's or chat rooms where you talk about whatever you felt like. But here in Triad City, it is meant to be fore RP.

Perhaps, if it is not too difficult, to change "chat" to "icc" for "In Character Chat". It sounds less like a chat room and the "ic" for in character will hopefully remind the players to speak IN CHARACTER ... as opposed to what OOC is for.

Perhaps another solution for the OOC.... I know some other muds have a "waiting area" where you log in... you see other people there in a room or some joined rooms where you can say or chat about whatever, yet they are not in the game world and their voices do not carry to the game world. As well as vice versa for the game world channels not being heard in the waiting area.

just my 2 cents

I like it. I do not think changing the regular chat command is necessary. I think changing OOC to newbie will make it clear that is what it is for.

I think that labelling chat as ICC could make it seem that talking in character is not the norm.

Maybe labelling OOC as HELP or something could work.
