I ran out of energy, and even sleep seems to be a slow way to get my strength back. I thought that I could leave midas asleep, log out, and come back later (like the next day real time) fully refreshed. Nope, still no energy. Since I can't do anything in the game while I'm sleeping, I guess I should just read the players manual or something while I wait. (Or write messages on this board, like I'm doing now.)

A neat item to scatter about would be an energy bar (like a PowerBar or something) that automatically restores all your energy. It'd be easier to carry than 10 apples or whatever the equivalent food would be.

Oooh, cool suggestion: energy bars. Nice.

Here are some things to note about energy which might help. In no special order:

--> There already are items in the game which will raise your max energy value while worn, carried, etc. Up to you to find them and figure them out. Hopefully details like this will become part of the game lore, which players will pass on to each other; meanwhile I hope this hint will at least help you get started.

--> Best thing for improving energy permanently, of course, is gaining levels. I *think* it shouldn't be hard to gain 2-3 levels simply by exploring SancIsland and vicinity. That'll raise your max energy, which will have lots of other good implications aside from sleeping less.

--> There are certain places in which your energy will recover more or less quickly than normal. You'll discover them with experience, but here to get the lore started: a good one is the Temple of the King on SancIsland. You'll recover energy and health there at about double the usual speed.

--> Also re recovery, in general the more "evil" a place is, the faster Evil characters will recover health and energy, and the slower Good and Neutral will recover; and ditto with "good" and "neutral" places.

--> Re leaving a character asleep, then logging out. That'll actually work in some MUDs, but not here. In TC, when you're logged out your characters don't exist. So they can only recover while logged in and resting / sleeping / etc.

--> Re sleeping, there will eventually be plenty of things you can do while konked. It'll take a while to implement them. Among the cooler will be dreams, including directed dreams if you learn the appropriate skills. Not a big priority right now, but a fun idea.

Meanwhile, go to town with the player manual and etc.

Thanks!

Hi midas:

Thanks for your post, which made me realize we had a bug. You're *supposed* to be able to chat, congrat and tell while asleep. I'd stupidly shut of all the talk-oriented commands during sleep, and have just finished restoring these three.

It's maybe a bit unnatural to be able to talk in one's sleep, but those three commands are unnatural anyway. IRL, we can't chat party-line style with an entire city.

In the future, it's likely these commands will evolve. We've had some discussion about 'tell' going away, to be replaced by a magic-based skill which might be called 'aethertalk', no offense to Apple Computer. Both parties would need the skill, but sleep would be no impediment. Also, we've discussed changing 'shout' to be more realistic: a loud version of 'say', which can be heard two or three rooms away.

Meanwhile, at least now you can talk to people while you recover energy and etc.
