I've had it with these wonky homemade bulletin boards.
They offer one advantage: they tie into your player account to allow easy posting IC as one of your characters.
If we replace them with a proper Web-like system, we can get searchability, threads that work correctly, private messaging, lots of granular permissions. If I work at it hard enough I can create single sign-on, so that when you're signed in to the SM web site you can get to the bbs. Have a google of "jforum" for an example.
But, we'll lose the ability to post IC. Posts will be as you, not your characters.
Do you care?

Personally? Nope, not at all. If I really want to say something "in character" I could probably work out some way to do so within a post. Honestly, though, I don't think the in char vs out of char makes that much difference - the important thing to me is keeping the lines of communication open.

While I like the idea of an in-character board, but it truly is not necessary. In its own way, it seems best to keep in-character in-game. I think its a little less stressful.
Though, there are ways around not having an in-character specific message board depending on the type of boards you are looking into having. A lot of the boards I am used to seeing have different sections, such as your suggestions and general and such might be. You could still create one for in-character and have one of the general rules be that players must have the first word in it be the character speaking, ex:
Etna - Why is it that everyone keeps crashing in my home?! OUT EVERYONE!
Just a thought on that though Like I said, it seems a bit more of a fun-side-thing rather than a necessity.

I don't personally care. I'll just do what I usually do on gaiaonline, post in a script like format.
Vanila: W-What's going on h-here?
RoboVanvic: We're deciding how important the IC boards are.
Vanila: B-but we only exist in c-character. W-where will we g-go?
RoboVanic: Who cares don't think about the meta stuff too much it'll only give you a headache.
Vanila: W-what do you think Vector?
Vector:...
RoboVanvic: Kukuku wise words, Vector. Wise words.
Vanila: Um t-this post w-was sponsored by the Vanilla Corporation. W-we're here to supply your n-needs and do things in the n-name of Science.
RoboVanvic: For Science!
Vector:*stoically holds a up a sign with the Vanilla Corporation logo*
....Science.

OK then, feedback so far is unanimous that the IC boards can evaporate. First attempts to get jforum integrated into the web site have failed, but, I'll plug away at it.

While IC bbs can be fun, I very much like the idea of improved searchability of events or concepts.
