Does anyone know how to learn some non-violent skills at level 5? Perhaps meditate? Has anyone learned by repitition without a teacher?

Yes, you can learn Meditate at level 5, from the meditation teacher next door to Elaine, upstairs at the White Plaza.

I updated the Table of Skills after realizing that Meditate wasn't included. Sorry about that!

is it possible to learn by repetition without a teacher? I think it should be, if not. This way, if you're a high level character, and you run out of the all-too fleeting practices you get when you level, you can still up your skills, maybe at least to the current Level, if not a higher quality, just by using them enough. Thoughts?

I like the idea, it'd allow people who use a skill a good bit to get higher levels with it, not needing an NPC with that level that can teach you that high of that level.
Thus eventually the NPCs will be secondary to PCs for learning skills.

I think you shouldn't be able to *learn* a skill without a teacher, but you should definitely be able to practice. I mean, logically, if you spent 5 hours trying to meditate, you would learn something about meditate! Maybe not enough for a whole skillup, but definitely it should be a factor. Someone who uses a skill often will have a higher skill than someone who never does.
