More research. Not hard to display the TC Character name of an IC post instead of the RL name of the poster. Done.

Pretty crazy to tweak everything else that would be necessary for fully IC boards. For example, the Author and Last Message columns of the listing of posts within a topic expect a "user" object which knows nothing about TC characters.

It would be doable to change all of this. But, I'm not sold that it's good bang for the buck.

There's an earlier, brief discussion of the value of IC boards in the legacy Players BBS. What do y'all think? Is it worth a week of dev time implementing them? Or can we make do with OOC boards?
Hey! - I lied. Found a fairly simple way to display TC character names instead of SM player names. Tested, working. This makes imports from the IC boards vastly more intuitive.

I think it won't be that hard to allow IC posting, as in the legacy boards. Researching.
There's something to be said for letting certain of the old boards die and starting afresh. Re-reading some old threads while testing, there's an awful lot of snarky crap typically from the same small circle reappearing frequently. Often using shill accounts pretending to be different RL individuals. Maybe it's better to start clean. The new forum software offers vastly more capable moderation.

Yet I'd hate to see the Lore, Suggestions, Builders, Game Wardens and maybe even General BBS's made less available. There's good stuff for newbs in there; and in the new format they're more easily searchable.

So it really is a tough call.
Sure thing, will get to it asap.
Would the next person who sees Victor in-game please invite him to participate in fora debugging, and share the temporarily secret URL with him? Thanks! We'll teach him the secret handshake at the next conference.

Victor, if you're interested in helping out, thanks! Please bash around and post any bugs here. Please don't share the link with anyone just yet. Thank you!
[In character as Poobah]:

heya! here's what an ic post would look like, if we ask mark to prepend character names to ic messages.

talkin' about imported legacy bbs messages, natch.

whattaya think?
Just about ready to import the old fora.

What to do about the in-character boards?

It would be too much work to convert JForum to display character names rather than real names. Whole armies of additional database tables, blah blah.

I've played with adding the text [In character as XYZETC:] as a header to the message. But it kinda grates, in part because I'm not sure every player wants to be identified as the author of certain characters.

But on the other hand, if a character is behaving obnoxiously, does the author want to be saddled with that?

What do y'all think?
Suggestion implemented.
Seriously awesome testing, though - very much appreciated! You're finding all kinds of cool things I would never have thought of.
Add "width=xyz" and "height=xyz" attributes to your <img> tag.

(But I think the giant knife is cool.)
I think I understand why this happens. If correct, it'll take work to straighten out. As part of integrating JForum with the SM website I've torn out the JForum authentication mechanism and plugged in the SM one in its place. That was the major effort of getting the two code bases to play nice together. I've tried to accomplish all the same login and logout steps that JForum expects, but, my guess is there's some necessary timestamp not being set somewhere during login/logout which is how JForum reckons whether to show the "new message" signs or not when you come back. So this might take some digging.
Should be doable! I'll look into it today.
Received.

I'll create a better outgoing email account, "fora@smartmonsters.com" maybe; and will include a note in the outgoing message that nobody monitors replies.
According to the code, as opposed to the label on the form, anything up to 150x150 is acceptable. Mine is 93x130. Will test with some other sizes when there's a chance. So basically I don't understand why it worked for you and failed for Lisa and me on the same day. Seems to be working now.
I see an outbound message to JF in the mail log. That's encouraging. However, no messages to myself have gone out, when I reply to my own messages. That would be good - the system would be smart enough to not bother you with emails telling you you replied to your own post.

Could someone reply to this one, to test this theory?
