The items that now will have a specified lifetime if left laying about in PlayerHouses... Would it not be more beneficial if the value of said items reaches a certain point or more, that they are put up either to the auctioneer?

Or on a separate thought process, things be given to a "neighborhood garage sale" until server reboot? This would mean that we would still have to pay to retrieve the items again, but that they are not automatically lost forever to the absent-minded player.

Personally, I like the idea of a garage sale. Not only does it get rid of the items from the houses of those who probably have far more than they need, but it could also help others who may be starting off or a bit short on funds. I would think it might be better for it to keep items across reboots but maybe have a certain limit on the number of each item. That way we don't wind up with 100 wooden or leather shields, but there would probably be a few available most of the time for a reduced price.

Sounds great, but I can even understand not wanting to keep items around that simply don't sell (that Auctioneer has an awfully hard time with that diamond ring!). If the items can actually stay around after the server boot, I'm thinking something like 1-2months of city-time the items should be left around. Not necessarily indefinitely, unless the item just happens to be so valuable, that its possible people just haven't been able to afford it.
