Hello,
When someone is new, and is truly reading the information provided to the players like myself, I tend to read read read and read some more lol.
So, when I came to the role link in the player guide, it lists a great deal of roles.
However, at the very bottem, it states that some roles that is in a certain faunt isn't accessible or not implamented.
For screen readers, this is stinky.
Like myself, I have no clue then what roles are implamented and active for all players.
So, if I read that you have to "die" to become a ghost, I am thinking cool.
I just lost my character with thousands and thousands of dinars worth of eq, I will become a ghost.
However, apparently players can't become ghosts because they are in this infinity room of blackness with no way out.
That's very confusing to a new player.
Why allow the player to go to a infinity locatoin of rooms if they can't do anything there, or get recovered?
Why not just log them out completely?
It gets very frustrating.
Especially in certain timezones, there are not players active for hours on end at times to ask, and secondly, in this infinity of rooms, you can't ooc chat, or chat to anyone.
So, you can't call out for help. Thats the second point of frustration.
If the room is there so that you can ask someone to go get your eq if they can, you can't because the room eats your words and you are not permitted to ooc or chat.

Hi Amanda:

Please post one suggestion per thread. That way the thread is much easier for others to follow.

Amanda's first suggestion in her OP is well-taken, IMO. Adding a supplemental signal to the italic font would be helpful.

The second half of the OP seems to be a complaint about a feature not understood. Amanda FYI, I generally delete complaints like this one when they're by newbies who haven't yet had time to figure out some of the distinctively different features of TriadCity. Give yourself time, it'll make sense with more experience. On the whole, though, thanks in advance for keeping posts constructive. Ideas are always welcome!

Added (*) to the Roles available only to NPCs. Good suggestion!

Folks should note these non-Player Roles are listed for a couple of reasons. They can give you an idea of the capabilities of various NPCs as you encounter them. But also to convey a general sense of how things might evolve, assuming someone someday has cycles to implement all the necessary infrastructure which enables good ideas.

Hi Amanda, several of us got together to drag your character's corpse with its eq from the newbie area to the fountain. Nobody was strong enough to carry it, lol. So we had to form a group to drag it. Just pointing out that we did this since it doesn't seem to have been acknowledged.

> I just lost my character...

Hi Amanda, this post on how to use violence successfully is very useful.

Hope this helps!

I think one thing which is possibly unintuitive to new players coming from conventional MUDs might be the basic concept that TriadCity isn't a conventional MUD. This includes playing styles. If you just go around killing things, you're unlikely to survive long unless you're extremely skilled and careful. That's the point of Lisa's sticky post which Mark links to above. This seems to be even true of the areas which are dedicated to violence, like the Noobatorium or the Junk Food jungle. You still have to have your skills maxed and your alignment solid, and all that.

This is vey noticeable if you switch back and forth between TriadCity and Midgaard. I've only played Midgaard a few times, but I noticed for example that if a door is closed there it doesn't display as an available exit direction. Midgaard only shows movement directions which are currently available. I guess that's the way it was done back in the day, since Midgaard claims to be a pretty accurate emulation of 1990s MUDs. I just mean things are different, is all.

I guess that can make TriadCity difficult to understand at first, for players coming from conventional MUDs. I haven't had that experience, because TriadCity is the first "virtual world" I've played.

Sorry to ramble, just thinking about stuff.

Word, Cammie!

A fairly real number of people coming from earlier MUDs think TC is buggy because things don't work the way they're used to!
