TriadCity Message of the Day
2026-01-20

Our lead Builder, Poobah, and our friends of the Pancreatic League are at work on an ambitious project we're announcing now, while it's only partly complete, rather than following our usual practice of waiting for all or at least most of the details to be implemented.

The Rive Gauche neighborhood of the NorthWestern Third is an area experiencing cultural ferment and rapid reinvention. It's a mashup of moments in the history of American culture when marginalized communities experienced a flowering of great cultural innovation: New Orleans and the invention of Jazz; the "Harlem Renaissance" in New York during the 1920s and 30s; Central Avenue in Los Angeles in the 1940s at the time of what history calls the "Zoot Suit Riots"; Chicago and Memphis in the 1950s; Hip-Hop and its antecedents in 1970s Bronx; Miami in the 1970s and 80s; more. The kind of "melting pot" where new musics, new arts, and new modes of cultural expression flowered.

And — in TriadCity context — where spies, police informants, resistance organizations, radicals, reformists and refugees all intermingle — organizing and arguing and watching each other — while some actively seek violence.

Thus you'll find The Renaissance Gallery, the Lafayette Theater, the Savoy Ballroom, the Maxwell Street Market, Sun Studios, the headquarters of the Elf Liberation Front, the Second Act Bar, Machito Park, the Harlem Hellfighters Memorial, all frequented by students, immigrants, cops and criminals and spies together in the compressed space south of Washington Street, east of Ulitsa L.D. Bronstein, west of the River.

As we said, we're not waiting for the entire Zone to be completed before announcing its major features as they're implemented. As of today, all the streets and parks are there. The clubs, galleries and theaters are just starting to go in. There'll be a hotel, player houses, musicians collectives, student apartments, rent parties, battles of the bands, political organizing, conflicts, and themes we're just starting to emphasize. Plus many surprises.

The Rive Gauche makes full use of TriadCity's thematic and technological sophistication. It'll be crucial for many of the "plot" elements players will encounter going forward.
