TriadCity Message of the Day

It's possible you may encounter one or potentially two ads on our pages.
Possible, but, seriously unlikely.
We've added Google AdSense ads to two locations on the Website: a traditional ad banner on the right above the menu bar, and a small rectangle below the login/signup box on the right side. We chose these locations to be unhidden yet unobtrusive.
Why are we doing this?
We need to be more focused on bringing in enough revenue to at least keep the lights on. SmartMonsters has never made money: we keep it online and growing as a labor of love for the medium itself. We make up the monthly shortfall in hosting and other technology costs out of our personal pockets.
Well — it's pretty pricey. So we'll show an ad now and then and maybe offset some of the red ink.
Any real chance of that?
Nope. To give an example, Google would need to display a banner ad 1,000 times for us to make $.14. So far, after many thousands of page views, Google's shown it a total of four times. We wouldn't suggest anyone holding their breath.

Please note what we haven't done. You've visited those sites with ads all over, with interstitial popups and sliders and super annoying interjections into the article you're reading. Google tries to insist these are "beautiful" and "optimized". Here's their exact text, quoted today: " Beautiful, optimized ads: In-article ads are optimized by Google to help you put great-looking ads between the paragraphs of your pages." We think they're horrific.
This is why we're broke.
